On November 3, 2023, the planting of 680 trees in the Odiel Marshes became a reality thanks to the Gañafote Cup and with the support of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
We are more than just a tournament. We bring added value to our community and uphold environmental values.

Fifteen volunteers from the Huelva Provincial Red Cross have planted 680 trees in Llanos de Bacuta, within the Marismas del Odiel Biosphere Reserve, as a result of a collaboration between the Regional Delegation for Sustainability, Environment, and the Blue Economy and the Gañafote Cup international youth soccer tournament.

In its most recent edition, the championship’s organizing committee included a social initiative aimed at environmental conservation in coordination with the Regional Government of Andalusia. It sold reusable cups, and the proceeds from these sales were to be used to expand tree cover in protected natural areas and to regenerate degraded areas or areas affected by wildfires. “Within this framework of collaboration, we are moving forward with the creation of a coastal forest typical of the Huelva coastline on sedimentary land,” explained Pedro Yórquez, the regional delegate for Sustainability, Environment, and the Blue Economy.
Thank you to all the city councils and institutions, such as the Regional Government and the Huelva Provincial Council, that make this tournament possible.
