Plantando futuro en el Parque Moret

The commitment to the environment and the values that transcend the playing field was once again visible in Huelva thanks to the Gañafote Cup. In collaboration with Aguas de Huelva and the Huelva City Council, the tournament held on November 13 the social action "Plant a Tree Today, Plant the Future", an initiative that reinforces the event's commitment to sustainability, education in values and the construction of a greener future for all.

The event took place in Moret Park, known as the green lung of the city, and was attended by the Mayor of Huelva, Pilar Miranda; the CEO of the Gañafote Cup, Joaquín Rasco; and the Director of Sustainability of Aguas de Huelva, Natividad Moya, as well as municipal representatives such as María de la O Rubio, Councilor for Sports, and Mariló Ponce, Councilor for Infrastructures.

During the day, authorities, institutional representatives and technical staff participated in a symbolic planting of trees to symbolize the shared commitment of the entities to reduce the carbon footprint and promote a more conscious and responsible citizenship with their environment.

Sport as a driver of sustainability

For Joaquín Rasco, CEO of the Gañafote Cup, "sport goes far beyond competition. Soccer is also a tool for sowing the future. Each tree planted today symbolizes our commitment to a greener and more sustainable Huelva".

For her part, the mayor of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, highlighted the importance of this collaboration: "Huelva is proud to have initiatives like this, which combine sport, social commitment and sustainability. The city is moving towards a greener model, and actions like this are an example of the path we want to follow".

From Aguas de Huelva, its Director of Sustainability, Natividad Moya, stressed that "sustainability is built with small actions that add up to big impacts, and this alliance with the Gañafote Cup perfectly reflects that spirit".

An event supported by the entire province

The Gañafote Cup has established itself as a benchmark for grassroots soccer and sports tourism in the province. It has the support of Diputación de Huelva, Huelva City Council, Destino Huelva Agency, Junta de Andalucía, Port of Huelva, Chamber of Commerce, FOE and about twenty more municipalities.

In addition to this institutional support, major brands and collaborating companies such as Viajes El Corte Inglés, Fundación Atlantic Copper, Supermercados El Jamón, Pepsi, Frutas de Andalucía, Sierra Cazorla, Gabitel, Onuba Consultoría Energética, Gasolineras Tycsa, GrowersGo, Seguridad Antares, Atracciones La Cinta, Autorecambios Colón, USISA, Aguas de Huelva, Klippervip, Publibit, Jamones Miguel Romero, Lamiya and RC Recreativo de Huelva.

Thanks to all of them, the Gañafote Cup 2026 is preparing to celebrate its international final phase next March, with more than 500 teams from five continents and the visit of 30,000 people, consolidating Huelva as a sustainable sports tourism destination.

A tournament with real values

Beyond the sporting results, the Gañafote Cup has shown that its true victory lies in its values. In recent years, the tournament has promoted numerous solidarity and environmental actions, including:

  • Donation of 3D glasses for the Pediatrics area of the Juan Ramón Jiménez Hospital.

  • Beach cleaning at the Espigón, where more than 1.6 tons of waste were removed.

  • Food campaigns together with the Food Bank.

  • Plantations in the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park.

  • Environmental actions with chef Xanty Elías at Finca Alfoliz.

With each step, the Gañafote Cup demonstrates that sport can be a vehicle for change, uniting passion, commitment and responsibility to the planet.

"Plant a Tree Today, Plant the Future".

The message is clear: sport also sows the future. The union between the Gañafote Cup, Aguas de Huelva and the City Council is an example of how synergies between institutions, companies and citizens can transform the local reality into a model of sustainability and hope.

Because every tree planted today will be tomorrow's shade, clean air and life.
And in Huelva, that green future has already begun to grow.
