The Muelle de las Carabelas is hosting the First Gañafote Cup Destino Huelva Gala, with the announcement that Toni Kroos will serve as the event’s patron for 2027

The historic setting of the Muelle de las Carabelas in Palos de la Frontera served as the backdrop for a memorable evening with the celebration of the 1st Gañafote Cup Destino Huelva Gala. This event, which was created with the aim of becoming an annual tradition, served to honor the people and institutions that have made the tournament’s growth possible. The most anticipated moment of the evening came with the official announcement of Toni Kroos as the patron for the 2027 edition. The global soccer legend thus takes up the torch from illustrious ambassadors such as David Villa, Fernando Morientes, Nolito, Jesús Vázquez, and Antonio Núñez.

During the evening, the awards for this first edition were presented to recognize the dedication and commitment of those who drive the championship:

  • Pioneer Award: Presented to Juan Daniel Romero, the Huelva Provincial Council’s representative for sports, for his vision and institutional support since the project’s inception.

  • Social Action Award: Presented to the Atlantic Copper Foundation in recognition of its work to promote inclusion, solidarity, and human values in sports.

On behalf of the Huelva City Council, the Councilwoman for Sports, María de la O Rubio, recalled how the Gañafote Cup Destino Huelva “has gone from being a project born in Huelva with great enthusiasm to becoming a tournament of international stature.” Rubio emphasized that the true value of the championship lies in its provincial nature, involving more than 20 municipalities and 29 sports venues.

Along the same lines, Juan Daniel Romero, the representative for Sports, thanked the organizers for their work in promoting healthy habits among young people and highlighted the economic and tourism impact the event has on the Huelva region.

Finally, tournament director Joaquín Rasco looked back on the competition’s history and paid tribute to all the award recipients of the evening.
