Presentation of the Gañafote Cup, the international tournament that will bring to Huelva more than 350 teams in April.
Lamiya hosted the 10th anniversary gala of a continental championship played on five continents.
All the institutions of the province are committed to this project, highlighting the evolution of the project over the years.
The Gañafote Cup has presented its tenth edition, which will be held in April 2025 and will bring to Huelva more than 350 teams from around the world, being the province of Huelva, for a few days, the epicenter of world grassroots soccer.
At an emotional gala, held at the Lamiya sports complex (Aljaraque, Huelva), the project director, Joaquín Rasco, explained the evolution of the project and all that has been achieved over the years. As the most significant fact, the previous phases of the Gañafote, which in this edition are disputed in the five continents.
Colombina, Dubai, Australia, Japan, Argentina or Poland, among others, are corners of the world where Gañafote travels. The winners of these previous phases will reach one of the novelties of this year: "the Gañafote World Cup", which will be played days before the tournament.
All the institutions present: Diputación de Huelva, Junta de Andalucía, as well as all the city councils that host the event, took the floor, highlighting the growth experienced by this sports project, which already surpasses the world of soccer, being a tourist reference, with the arrival of more than 40,000 visitors, 17 full hotels in the province, 350 teams or a provincial economic impact that exceeds two million euros.
Among the messages sent in support of the project, the one from former national coach and world champion with the Spanish national team, Vicente del Bosque, stood out on the screen, encouraging all young people to "fulfill their dream" of becoming a professional soccer player, with the values and respect of the world of soccer.
In this edition, the venues of the tournament in 2025 are Huelva, Lepe, Cartaya, Villablanca, Palos de la Frontera, Beas, Bonares, Aljaraque, San Juan del Puerto, Almonte, Ayamonte or Moguer; adding as a facility this year Lamiya in La Monacilla, and the sub-venues of Matalascañas and Mazagón.

This tournament, the Gañafote, has become in recent years the world reference tournament par excellence, with the world's top teams as participants, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Brugge, Juventus, Benfica, Porto, PSG, Atletico Madrid or Sevilla FC, among many others.
More than 300 teams pass through Huelva every year, in a Discovery Tournament, which is becoming more and more consolidated at an international level. This tournament is supported by more than 18 institutions in Spain and 40 worldwide, such as the Huelva City Council, Lepe, Cartaya, Villablanca, Palos, Beas, Bonares, Aljaraque, San Juan, Almonte, Ayamonte or Moguer; as well as the Diputación de Huelva and Junta de Andalucía.
Last year alone, the Gañafote Kids, held in March in the province of Huelva, brought an economic benefit that exceeded 3.4 million euros; in global terms, adding the overnight stays, the average consumption of the participants, as well as that of their families. It brought together more than 220 teams from four continents and more than a dozen countries around the world, from the Arab Emirates to Argentina, passing through Europe and Africa. It was an event that promotes and sells the Huelva brand as a tourist destination within and beyond our borders, with nearly 30,000 visitors in just 4 days.
