Gañafote Cup conquers Colombia at the beginning of its opening to five continents
The Gañafote Cup has arrived for the first time in Colombia and has conquered this South American country with a lot of soccer. We already have the first of the winners of the nearly ten previous phases that this year will be held in the five continents. It is the Carlos Sarmiento Lora Soccer School.
This club, which already has a direct pass to the Final Phase of the Gañafote Cup 2025 in Huelva (Spain) in April, won 4-0 against Club Talentos Cartageneros, a rival that had played a great tournament in Colombia. The third and fourth places were disputed between Club Deportivo Independiente Distrital FC and Kid's FC, with a 4-5 result.
A total of ten teams have traveled to Manizales (Colombia), in the so-called Coffee Axis of the country, to play this preliminary phase. Local teams from the area, together with teams from cities such as Cali or Cartagena. An expedition of the Gañafote has traveled to Colombia, led by the general director of the tournament, Joaquín Rasco; and the technical coordinator of the preliminary phase in Colombia, Willie Oviedo.
The general manager of Gañafote, Joaquín Rasco, still moved by the response in this country to this preliminary phase, has indicated that "Gañafote is really a soccer party" and has pointed out that "we have come to Colombia to stay", thanking the welcome from clubs, institutions, players, fans...
Parallel to the competition, in Colombia, the Gañafote Cup has developed a solidarity action in the area where the tournament has been played with the delivery of sports equipment: boots, shirts, balls... among local needy families. The Gañafote Cup, since its inception, aims to establish a line of solidarity, "since it is a tournament that is much more than soccer and competition," said Rasco.
This tournament, the Gañafote, has become in recent years in grassroots soccer the world reference tournament par excellence, with the world's top teams as participants, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Brugge, Juventus, Benfica, Porto, PSG, Atletico Madrid or Sevilla FC, among many others.
Discovery Tournament
More than 300 teams pass through Huelva every year, in a Discovery Tournament, which is becoming more and more consolidated at an international level. This tournament is supported by more than 18 institutions in Spain and 40 worldwide, such as the Huelva City Council, Lepe, Cartaya, Villablanca, Palos, Beas, Bonares, Aljaraque, San Juan, Almonte, Ayamonte or Moguer; as well as the Diputación de Huelva and the Junta de Andalucía.
Last year alone, the Gañafote Kids, held in March in the province of Huelva, brought an economic benefit that exceeded 3.4 million euros; in global terms, adding the overnight stays, the average consumption of the participants, as well as that of their families. It brought together more than 220 teams from four continents and more than a dozen countries around the world, from the Arab Emirates to Argentina, passing through Europe and Africa. It was an event that promotes and sells the Huelva brand as a tourist destination within and beyond our borders, with nearly 30,000 visitors in just 4 days.
